 Which states did the monsoon hit after Kerala? The southwest monsoon hit Kerala on May 24. The monsoon usually arrives on June 1. A low pressure area is present over the east-central Arabian Sea and adjoining south Konkan coast. It is likely to move towards the east and cross south coastal Maharashtra. In the next 2-3 days, the monsoon will enter the central Arabian Sea, Goa, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, west central and north Bay of Bengal, north-eastern states, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and some parts of Sikkim. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur over west coastal Kerala, Karnataka, coastal Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Goa during the next 7 days.

According to the IMD, Kerala and Karnataka will experience heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning and strong winds of 40-50 kmph from May 25-27. Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will experience rain from May 25-27. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are likely to experience thunderstorms and lightning in the next five days. Winds of 50-70 kmph are likely. Weather conditions will deteriorate in Lakshadweep from May 25-26.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in all these states. The Meteorological Department has issued a rain warning for West India and Northeast India. Thunderstorms and rain will occur in Maharashtra and Goa from May 25-30 and in Gujarat from May 24-27. Along with this, winds of 70 kmph will also occur. If we talk about North-East India, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall with strong winds for the next 7 days.

According to the IMD, light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers will occur in Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh between May 25-28. Sikkim will experience rain and thunderstorms between May 25-26, Andaman and Nicobar Islands between May 25 and May 25, and Odisha and Bihar between May 25 and 30. Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will experience rain and thunderstorms with lightning, strong winds and hailstorms between May 25-30. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh from May 27-30, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan from May 25-30 and Haryana, Chandigarh from May 25-29 will experience strong winds and cloudy weather.

IMD has issued a severe heat wave warning for Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and Jammu.

Warning issued for heavy rain in Delhi In the last 24 hours, the minimum temperature in Delhi NCR has increased by 2 degrees and the maximum temperature by 3 degrees Celsius. The maximum and minimum temperatures in the capital were between 36 and 37 degrees Celsius and 27 and 28 degrees Celsius respectively. The IMD has issued a rain warning for Delhi NCR for the next 3 days. From May 25 to 27, the sky will be partly cloudy and there will be rain with thunder and lightning in Delhi and adjoining districts. Winds will gust at a speed of 30-40 kmph to 50 kmph.

One dead in Delhi rain, red alert The Meteorological Department has appealed to people to take necessary precautions. The IMD has warned people to avoid open areas and not to take shelter under trees. It has also asked citizens to avoid weak walls or unstable structures and stay away from water bodies. The possible impact of the storm includes uprooting and breaking of trees. Crops like banana and papaya may face moderate damage and dry tree branches may fall due to strong winds. Dust storms are also likely in some parts of the city.
