Russia-Ukraine peace meeting in Turkey after drone attack

New Delhi: Russian and Ukrainian delegations held a second round of peace talks in Istanbul, Turkey, on Monday, a day after Kiev carried out a major drone strike targeting a Moscow airport, seeking to end the three-year war. The peace talks between Russia and Ukraine lasted 90 minutes. After the meeting, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustam Umerov said that an agreement had been reached on a prisoner exchange, which would focus on the seriously wounded and young. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan chaired the meeting, which was also attended by Turkish intelligence officials.

Russia-Ukraine peace meeting..

Ukraine demanded a ceasefire at the meeting. But Russia agreed to a ceasefire for only two to three days. During the ceasefire, both countries agreed to return the bodies of soldiers killed in the war. The talks lasted only 90 minutes. An agreement was reached on the exchange of soldiers. Although no date has been set for this. But the two countries will hold talks again in Turkey.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking in Vilnius, Lithuania, said that both sides have exchanged documents on the Turkish side and that we are preparing for the release of prisoners. He said that if the talks do not yield any results, new sanctions will be imposed. Sanctions on Russia are necessary at the G7 level.

What Zelensky said

Zelensky said that Russia should start the process of exchanging prisoners and returning the hostages. If this is done, then Russia and Ukraine can resolve their mutual problems through direct talks. If Russia does not do this and the talks in Istanbul fail, then the European Union should impose strict sanctions. The United States should also impose new sanctions on Russia. Let me tell you that the last time the two countries met for the first time was on May 6. A delegation of senior military and diplomatic officials from both sides has been sent to work out a common plan to end the fighting. It is understood that no agreement was reached on ending the fighting at the meeting in Istanbul.
