On Wednesday evening, the cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, approved the request for increasing the age limit.

It has been said that the upper age limit for various government posts and entry into the service has been increased. Earlier, it was 32 years, but it has been increased to 42 years.

However, this will not be applicable in the uniformed services (where there is a physical ability test) like police, forest, civil service, fire service etc.

Not only that, it is reported that the upper age limit will be relaxed as per the rules issued by the government from time to time in the case of SC, ST, backward classes, women, differently abled persons and retired soldiers.

It is worth noting that earlier the upper age limit for government jobs was 32 years. There have been demands from various quarters to increase it for a long time.

A total of 5 proposals were passed in the cabinet that sat on Wednesday. The cabinet meeting was held in a new format.

Except for the Chief Secretary, no other department secretaries were allowed to attend the meeting. After the meeting, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja briefed the media about the cabinet decision.

The cabinet meeting approved the Odisha Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy-2025. Under this, the state government will set up the Odisha AI Mission.

The cabinet approved the concession agreement between the state government and JSW Utkal Steel Limited for setting up its own jetty at the mouth of Jatadhara in Jagatsinghpur district.

The Odisha Eye Care Services (Recruitment Procedure and Service Delivery) Rules-2025 have been passed by the cabinet. At present, 197 eye care professionals are working in various hospitals in the state.

MSS Iron Triangle Limited has been selected as the contractor for the tender for the construction of a new pavilion along with the renovation works at Mahimahgadi in Joranda, Dhenkanal district.
