Last year, the monsoon hit Odisha on June 7. This time, the monsoon has arrived in the state before the beginning of June. This time, the Meteorological Department has said that there will be more than normal rainfall in the state.
The low pressure formed in the north Bay of Bengal has turned into a well-defined low pressure on Wednesday afternoon.
The department has estimated that the active low pressure is slowly moving northwards and may turn into a depression in 24 hours.
The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some districts today due to the effect of the low pressure.
Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and Kendrapara will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. An orange alert has been issued for these four districts. Winds may blow at a speed of 40 to 50 km.
Similarly, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts may experience heavy rainfall along with wind speed of 50 kmph.
Thunderstorms are likely to occur in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kandhamal and Rayagada.
Similarly, the regional meteorological department has predicted heavy rainfall in Sonepur, Jharsuguda, Balangir, Sambalpur, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Puri, Khordha, Ganjam, Gajapati tomorrow.
Light to moderate rain is also likely at isolated places in South Odisha and North Odisha coast on 31st, 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
